12 PIECE VICTORIAN SILVER HANDLED CUTLERY SET circa 1850 / 1860
This 12 silver handled cutlery set is in very good condition for it's age. It was made by Aaron Hadfield who was a Silversmith from Sheffield.
The handles are all hallmarked silver with the initials A.H and has the Sheffield Crown, the Lion stating the silver content and Queen Victoria's head (photo's 6,7 and 8). The knife blades and fork prongs are silver plated and have the initials AH & JH. The initials JH stand for John Hand who had his own Patent method of "Close Plating".
As there is NO date letter, I have put the date of this cutlery set at around 1850 / 1860 but they could be slightly earlier.
The handles have all been engraved on the Terminals with the initials J C or JCH.
Length of knives just over 8.1/2" (220mm). Forks just over 7" (180mm).
